Comparing Luxury Five-Passenger SUVs - the BMW X3 vs. the Acura RDX

When it comes to buying or leasing a compact SUV with five-passenger seating here in the Burlington area, we know your choices are many. It seems as if every carmaker and dealership around has a model to consider, leading to a dizzying array of choices to weigh. But none of those other SUVs are the BMW X3 available now at The Automaster BMW in Shelburne.

A compact SAV from our world-class lineup of options, the BMW X3 goes above and beyond your average SUV to deliver refinement, elegance, and quality like no other. Need a little more information before deciding? Consider the X3 next to the similarly sized Acura RDX. We've put together a little side-by-side data on the two models, and we invite you to let us tell you more.

Both of these compact models offer the SUV style that Stowe drivers love, with the easy-to-drive size and easy parking nature that's right at home in busy Williston parking lots. Each has four doors and a rear liftgate that opens to allow access to a spacious and versatile cargo area, which can be expanded by folding down the rear seats.

Despite their many similarities and nearly identical exterior dimensions, however, the BMW X3 offers more room on the interior for you and your tallest passengers. The X3 is petite on the outside, but spacious on the inside, with a nicely designed interior that maximizes comfort and offers more headroom than the Acura RDX in both rows.

Acura RDX

Power and Performance

At their base level, entry trim options, the Acura RDX delivers slightly more power than the BMW X3, coming in with a 272-horsepower rating, compared to 248 horsepower for the BMW. However, where that is the only option available for the RDX, BMW takes it above and beyond, with an available upgrade on upper trims that you won't find in the Acura lineup. Paired to the signature BMW M-Line craftsmanship for drivers who crave a little more, the X3 M40i gets its power from a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, and it delivers a robust 382 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque.

Not only does the BMW X3 have more engine choices and options than the Acura RDX, but it also earns a better fuel economy rating than the Acura. Looking at the entry-level models for both vehicles, the BMW X3 gets an EPA rating of 25 mpg in the city, 29 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined. The Acura, on the other hand, earns just 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. Additionally, the BMW averages 430 miles in the city and 499 miles on the highway per fill up at the gas station, while the Acura goes just 376 miles in the city and 479 miles on the highway per tank of gas.
